RSD2 Symposium - 09-11 October 2013.. We are pleased to announce that the Relating Systems Thinking and Design 2 (RSD2) Symposium will take place on 09 to 11 October 2013.. The program has been finalized.. In addition to the presentations seven workshop sessions will take place.. The Symposium was initiated by OCEAN member Birger Sevaldson as an integral part of his research and teaching in Systems Oriented Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.. Systems Oriented Design is a research area in OCEAN and has benefitted greatly from its origin within concept development in OCEAN throughout the first decade of its existence.. The registration for participation is now open.. Please register on the symposium website.. Symposium website:.. www.. systemic-design.. net.. Systems Oriented Design:.. systemsorientedesign.. The Symposium is for free but there are limited seats available.. OCEAN members collaborate in maritime research project.. OCEAN members Natasha Barrett and Birger Sevaldson are involved in the maritime research project at Oslo School of Architecture and Design.. The research project is financed by the Norwegian Research Council, with the Ulstein Ship builder as the main partner.. The project application was prepared by Birger Sevaldson and others and the project was initially lead by him.. The lead was subsequently transferred to Kjetil Nordby who has developed the project greatly and run by him with an extensive group of researchers, PhD fellows, designers and programmers.. Birger Sevaldson is contributing as a senior researcher in the project.. The project has created a significant amount of media attention in Norway and internationally.. One of the theoretical pillars in the project is Systems Oriented Design (SOD).. SOD is also one of the research activities in OCEAN where it was developed and emerged out of the early concept developments in OCEAN and the discussions around the Dynamic Generative Diagram.. SOD is looking at an active expansion and its practice is migrating to several design companies at the moment, amongst them HALOGEN (.. halogen.. no.. ).. Natasha Barrett has worked with research on sound design for the ship bridge in the UBC project.. We are pleased that for the first time a musical composer has been involved with sound design for a ship bridge.. OCEAN is a interdisciplinary network, that emphasizes inter- and trans-disciplinary work and this is one of the best examples of the potential of such networking collaboration.. Michael Hensel, Defne Sunguroğlu Hensel, Prof.. Birger Sevaldson, Dr.. Research Period: 2007 -.. Research Status: ongoing.. Supplementary or 2nd degree auxiliary architectures are a potent means to organise space and modulate micro-climatic environments in already build up contexts in which it is not possible to modify or replace the urban fabric or buildings.. Such supplementary interventions can provide an extended architectural threshold between exterior and interior for versatile use, a heterogeneous micro-climate and a significant reduction of climate impact on the initial climate skin and interior.. In so doing Auxiliary Architectures can provide an integrated approach to architectural design and sustainability..
