Descriptive info: .. Home.. Breaking News.. Magical Egypt Tours.. Appearances.. Books.. Gallery.. Links.. Contact.. Author, lecturer and guide, John Anthony West delivered a seismic shock to archaeology in the early 1990's when he and Boston University geologist Robert Schoch revealed that the Great Sphinx of Giza, Egypt, showed evidence of rainfall erosion.. Such erosion could only mean.. that the Sphinx was carved during or before the rains that marked the transition of northern Africa from the last Ice Age to the present interglacial epoch, a transition that occurred in the millennia from 10,000 to 5000 BC.. Egyptian civilization was not a development, it was a legacy.. John Anthony West.. -- Breaking News --.. Off with the pith helmet,.. on with the beret.. Hello all,.. • Title: Breaking News
Descriptive info: -- Breaking News --.. Off with the pith helmet, on with the beret.. - it isn t supposed to be that way.. And yet, somehow or another, things get done.. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.. I temporarily trade in my trademark pith helmet.. and don the Bohemian beret I began with all those years ago.. Long url.. http://www.. kickstarter.. com/projects/572692663/jarry-a-spectacle.. Short url.. http://kck.. st/11TGp3I.. I hope to see anyone living within convenient striking distance of Saugerties NY (nr.. Woodstock NY which I mention to save all Eg-Update recipients search time.. since almost no one has ever heard of Saugerties, and almost everyone knows where Woodstock is) at one or another of the performances of my play.. You will find practically everything relevant to the upcoming event if you surf around the Kickstarter site, so there is no need to elaborate here.. Except perhaps to mention that that Kickstarter facility (and others like it) represent, for me, the realization of a dream.. Very early in my long career I realized that the people with the money controlled the project, any project, and that there was no way for the creator of the project, be it a book, play or movie to ensure that it came out the way it was envisioned.. Publishing was slow, clumsy, often exasperating, but relatively benign; theater and TV were both frantic and problematical and film (Hollywood particularly) was little more than a pool full of piranhas and barracudas.. At the bottom of the pecking order was the creative individual responsible for keeping all these industries in business.. An inside Hollywood Polish joke goes: Did you hear about the Polish starlet who had an affair with the screenwriter?.. (that s the joke.. ).. Yet, all along, I also knew that out there in the big, wide world there were people who, if only they could be accessed, would support a project for its artistic merit rather than its profit potential.. (Do not get me wrong: there is nothing wrong with making money out of creativity! But when profit is not only the guiding principle but the.. only.. principle, the entire system goes toxic.. Thus, long before anyone coined the term micro-financing I was dreaming micro-financing but it was only a dream.. There was no practical way to get to those hypothetical supporters.. The internet has changed all that.. It is now possible to do an end run around our irremediably toxic system by exploiting the system s own strengths.. A single click of the button gets this Eg-Update to the 1556 people on my mailing list.. Those of you who see fit to do so, will, I hope, send it to on to others, who in turn.. etc.. , etc.. I await the results with anticipation and, I confess, a rare, if guarded, optimism.. PS.. A disclaimer: Whatever the results of the Kickstarter campaign, JARRY will go on as scheduled.. That is a certainty.. I m not trying to cajole anyone into supporting the production.. But I will inevitably take the Kickstarter results, whatever they may turn out to be, as significant, one way or another.. Eg-Update 27.. 0!.. Egypt Trip March 20 - April 2, 2013.. I'm sure that, like me, all of you with an interest in an Egypt trip have been paying close attention to the news from Egypt over the last few months.. And, in all likelihood, like me, you were wondering whether Egypt would descend into open civil war (making trips inadvisable or even impossible, should the US government declare a ban for US citizens on travel there -- as it did for the first Gulf War) or if the opposing Egyptian factions would come to some sort of (no doubt) grudging agreement and my trips could go on unimpeded.. The recent referendum about the new constitution and its subsequent passage looked as if it might prove to be the deciding factor, one way or the other: flash point igniting widespread chaos, or an opportunity for some sort of functioning truce.. The latter seems to have more or less prevailed, though nobody seems very happy with it.. I was always hopeful (not just out of self-interest, but from years of experience with Egypt and Egyptians) that there would be an accommodation, and right now that seems to be the case.. This is not to say that it couldn't change overnight, but I think the situation looks sufficiently stable to go full steam ahead with trip plans.. So I m now actively looking for people for the March 20 - April 2 2013 trip (I have enough signed on already so that it is sure to fly, barring some unforeseen crisis) and for trips for the autumn season.. If all goes well, there should be two though I don t have exact dates yet: one late Oct-early Nov, another maybe early December.. Assuming these trips go on as planned, you can be sure that you will be seeing Egypt under the most favorable travel conditions imaginable.. It will be practically empty as long as the press keeps hyping the protests! (Horrible for the already poor Egyptians, but fantastic for us.. It s an ill wind, etc.. So get in touch if you re interested.. If anyone wants/needs to discuss any aspect of the trip with me in more detail, please email, call or skype me.. Eg-Update 26.. October 25 - November 7 Egypt Trip.. As this is written, the situation in Egypt seems to have achieved a steady state of dynamic simmer.. And it seems to me pretty likely to stay that way.. At least for the near-term future.. The loose but numerically strong coalition that is the Muslim Brotherhood butts heads with the Military who, naturally and predictably, declines to relinquish its power (notwithstanding the pious admonitions and hand-wringings of Hillary Clinton and assorted Democracy-boosting, hypocritical Western windbags).. Some of you may remember me predicting this as the most likely post-Revolution scenario: i.. e.. , that, effectively, the Egyptians, being the Egyptians, will find a way to muddle through without self-destructing.. Both my Egyptian friends and American/European friends living in or traveling to Egypt report back that tourism is way down but safe and we are, as always, warmly welcomed.. With luck it will stay that way.. But the longer it stays peaceful, the sooner tourism will recover and the crowds will return in force.. This is great for the Egyptian economy, of course (and I do not begrudge them that!), but it s hardly conducive to experiencing Symbolist Egypt as I like to experience it.. In other words, if you re contemplating a trip, you should do whatever you can to go sooner rather than later.. And spread the word.. I hope to see you in Egypt in October.. Regards,.. John.. More on this to come shortly, as well as reviews of a number of extraordinary and essential, under-the-radar-screen books that have appeared over the past few years (and that, with my customary procrastinitis) I ve not managed to tell everyone about.. Tel:Â.. 518-678-2160.. Â.. Skypename: JAWSPHINX.. To join my private mailing list and receive occasional updates and Egypt Trip information, click here.. To listen to my PhoenixFire Audio blogs click hereÂ.. Eg-Update 25.. Friends and Egyptophiles,.. Upcoming lecture.. This is a last-minute, barely-advance notice for a one-hour lecture I'll be giving tomorrow,.. Saturday July 28th.. , at.. The Center for Symbolic Studies.. in near-by New Paltz, NY.. http://symbolicstudies.. org/.. Google it up.. the seminar is called.. As Above, So Below.. and features an unusual and interesting mix of speakers talking on a number of topics directly or tangentially related to the hermetic theme.. and all in a wonderful rural setting.. It's also exceedingly reasonable, so anyone who lives nearby and has not made concrete plans for tomorrow might enjoy attending.. Why is this notice so late? In part it's because I was only invited to speak very recently, but beyond that, my genetic, perhaps terminal procrastinitis delayed this notice even further.. (As Oscar Wilde should have said, but didn't: "I have been thinking about procrastinating but never seem to get around to it.. ").. So, the customary apologies, and maybe a few on this list will find their way there.. To those who would have liked to attend, but cannot on such short notice, I hope you will accept my customary and sincere apologies.. (I don't mean to be glib.. I'm.. really.. sorry.. I never seem to get my act together in a timely fashion and often wonder how, over the course of more than fifty years of writing, I've managed to finish anything at all.. More news coming up soon.. Stay tuned.. ETA: John is speaking from 1:45-2:45.. Eg-Update 24.. Hello everyone,.. This is to let you know that I will be on the Joe Rogan show.. tonight.. (.. June 8th @6:30 PM EST.. ).. joerogan.. Apologies for the last minute notice, but since the podcast will be archived, you won t have to miss it if you can t tune in when it s live.. It s more or less open-ended and could go on for two hours or more.. (You can download it and listen to it in your car on the next 1000 mile drive you take.. Joe Rogan is a former mixed martial artist, turned talk show host and comedian.. with a substantial following and a keen interest in ancient Egypt and related matters.. As a comic he s rather more George Carlinesque than Stephen Colbertian which suits me just fine; a heavy hitter, rather than a Colbert/Stewart/Maher-class featherwit.. If you get to tune in, enjoy! There is A LOT to talk about.. All the best,.. Eg-Update 23.. Hello Everyone,.. A quick update to let you know that on the weekend of.. April 6/7/8, 2012.. , I'll be doing an evening series of three Egypt lecture at an elegant Pennsylvania Pocono Mountain resort/spa The Lodge at Woodloch in Hawley PA.. thelodgeatwoodloch.. Click on Speakers and Events.. Anyone keen on a pampered, upscale, spring spa weekend with evening onslaughts of symbolist Egypt might like to sign up for it.. Guests at the spa have first priority for lecture seats, but if the auditorium is left with some empty seats, non-guests will be welcome.. So anyone living within striking distance who'd like to come to the talks but not necessarily stay at the Lodge should call or email.. Renee Gamboni 570-685-8549.. or Rgamboni@thelodgeatwoodloch.. com to inquire about availability and other details.. They should have a pretty good idea by now as to whether or not there will be room for non-guests.. With luck I'll see some familiar faces there!.. Much more info coming sometime soon.. A lot going on re: ancient Egypt around here!.. Next Egypt trip is scheduled for October 25th - November 7, if anyone is interested.. Details are not yet up on my website.. [ Details of the new trip ARE now up.. on here.. ! -.. Ed.. ].. John.. It has been a very long time between Eg-updates.. A lot has been  ...   we can obtain permission to continue with our research in Egypt, we will try to satisfy his conditions.. Meanwhile, in this prevailing détente atmosphere, I now have very sanguine hopes that --if we can get the right sort of academic sponsorship-- we can get a proposal accepted that allows us to get back to Egypt with geologists and archaeologists, seismographs and ground penetrating radar to follow our initial research where it leads us.. We are presently working on this, via my colleague Robert M.. Schoch.. Moreover, there are now at least two orthodox Egyptologists willing to stand before their colleagues and argue, not necessarily that they are convinced we are right, but that the opposing arguments put forward to date do not refute our evidence.. This constitutes a major breakthrough from our point of view.. Along the same lines, one of Zahi's favorite public arguments over the years has been that Robert Schoch is the.. geologist who believes in our theory.. Actually, this is not true to begin with.. At our initial presentation at the Geological Society of America's convention in 1991, attending geologists unanimously agreed, on the basis of the extensive photographic evidence presented, that the Sphinx was indeed water weathered.. Zahi's response to that has been that none of these geologists has studied the evidence in the field, in Egypt -- not altogether an illegitimate objection.. Photographs can indeed be misleading.. But dismissing the theory on the grounds that Schoch is the.. geologist to support it.. an illegitimate objection.. In 1600 Galileo was the only astronomer who believed the earth went around the sun.. He happened to be right.. Anyway, we've learned recently that David Coxill, (an English geologist, unknown to either of us, but author of a number of research papers and several books) went to Egypt in 1997 specifically to check out our work for himself.. In.. InScription: Journal of Ancient Egypt.. #5 (a journal previously unknown to us, but apparently not an 'official' academic publication) he describes his findings.. His independent survey of the evidence corroborates our own work without reservation.. A survivor of the massacre at Luxor Temple, Coxill (in a letter in the same issue of.. InScription.. recounting that experience) also tells of sitting next to an Egyptian geologist on the plane from Cairo to Aswan, and discussing the geology of the Sphinx with him: 'He, like many geologists, thinks that the excavated pit in which the Sphnx lies, shows rainwater weathering features.. '.. So now there are now at least two known geologists (and one unknown geologist) with hands-on experience in Egypt, convinced that the Sphinx was carved at a much earlier date -- forcing, in turn, at the very least, a revision of that particular objection.. Note: though atrociously produced,.. proves to be a mine of valuable Egyptological information.. Written for the most part by orthodox Egyptologists, it publishes articles -written for the lay enthusiast- that would not appear in the largely impenetrable 'official' journals.. For further info:.. email.. or.. website.. There is also at least one eminent archaeo-astronomer, Dr.. Archie Roy, formerly of Glasgow University, who finds Robert Bauval's Orion/pyramid correlation intriguing.. He will be debating the negative conclusions reached by Dr.. E.. C.. Krupp at the upcoming Cairo Debate (see below) in September, 1999.. So, slowly but surely, we attract credentialed support from within the Establishment itself.. Moreover, a handful of discoveries/observations made by myself and others over the past couple of years further support the theory.. The nature of these discoveries is such that they do not look very spectacular to untrained eyes.. Therefore scanning photos onto this website update that take forever to download would tell readers very little.. At the same time, describing them well enough to make the point clear would take more words than I want to write, and, without intimate knowledge of the individual sites involved (which few reading this website will have) would also serve little purpose -I'm not trying to be secretive.. It is enough for readers to know that there is now a body of new evidence supporting the initial theory.. The essential is to get impartial geologists and archaeologists on site to see if this evidence can be explained in such a way that the standard chronology stands.. If it cannot be, and the new evidence is corroborated by independent credentialed scientists, it will no longer be possible to deny that Egypt's history goes thousands of years further back into the past -as the dynastic Egyptians themselves always claimed.. This in turn must finally oblige that total rewrite of ancient history, and with it, a reconsideration of the level of knowledge available to humanity at a time when, by orthodox beliefs, we were still hunter-gatherers.. So: stay tuned.. Opening The Lost Tombs.. hosted by Maury Povich, March 2, 1999.. This Fox Network 2 hour special was widely viewed but the reaction --judging from my own email-- by people with a keen interest in, and some knowledge of, Egypt was rarely positive.. No one believed that the tombs were really opened for the first time (they weren't) and everyone was disappointed that us heretics (Bauval, Hancock, myself) were accorded so little time, while Richard Hoagland was given rather more time (to make a variety of unwarranted, utterly hypothetical Mars/Giza connections) as were the Cayce prophecies.. Fox had ample interesting footage to draw upon, including a spirited debate on various elements of the 'lost civilization' theory between Zahi Hawass, Graham Hancock, Robert Bauval and myself, picturesquely recorded at an ancient coffee shop in the camera-friendly Khan-el-Khalili bazaar.. Presumably (and wrongly) reckoning that its audience couldn't handle the intellectual content of the debate, all of it was edited out at some point, as was most of the other footage Fox had shot earlier in individual interviews with us.. On the upside, no lasting damage was done, Fox was pleased with the high ratings the show logged, which reinforces the accurate network perception that ancient Egypt = high ratings, which in turn paves the way for other, less intellectually barren projects.. Yonaguni Follow-Up.. As a follow-up to our dive off the coast of the Yonaguni island in 1997, Robert Schoch returned there in late summer of 1998 to continue his research.. Bad weather severely hampered the diving, but in examining the major underwater formation again, as well as several other sites, Schoch found no reason to alter his/our earlier negative conclusions.. However spectacular the sites may appear in the photos, he remains convinced that they are entirely natural, and can be wholly explained in terms of the nature of the rock when subjected to the long term action of ocean currents, tides, and typhoons.. We'd both like it to be otherwise, but at the moment Schoch has found no evidence that would suggest working by human hands.. Those following the 'Lost Civilization' controversy will be interested in Robert Schoch's new book,.. Voices of the Rocks: A Scientist Looks at Catastrophes Ancient Civilizations.. Schoch meticulously and critically examines the evidence for and against the various explanations that have been put forward to explain the cause of the acknowledged catastrophe that brought on the demise of the last ice age.. This book is a state of the art statement on catastrophe theory.. It will be published in May, 1999 by Harmony Books.. Atlantis Rising.. A Ten Part Documentary Series for Television.. Written by myself and my colleague Paul William Roberts, this ambitious project looks at all aspects of the 'Lost civilization' controversy, studies its implications for our view of history , draws the parallels between the ancient metaphysical doctrines and the latest discoveries in leading edge cosmology that look unmistakably like the ancient doctrine expressed in contemporary scientific language and speculates on the impact all of this will have in the next couple of decades as The Church of Progress loses its grip on the world mind and is gradually replaced by a new, sound, and constructive doctrine, nothing less than a true Renaissance.. The project has come very close to contract signing over the past couple of years.. Initially, Disney wanted to do it (as a four part series) but as everyone in the industry knows, Mickey Mouse is really Wally Wolf in mouse clothing.. We were disinclined to hand over our life's work for a minimum wage return, just to have Mickey on the logo and so turned down the deal.. Several other offers from other independent producers were also deemed unacceptable, but a new production company has recently expressed keen interest in getting behind it.. We have high hopes that this time it will happen and will be ready to celebrate the New Millennium not so very long after the clock strikes 2000.. The Cairo Debate.. Initially scheduled for February 1999, rescheduled for May 8-16th, 1999, and, (as this written), again postponed and re-rescheduled for Sept 23-Oct.. 1, 1999 this unique event (if it happens!) will pit the main proponents of the Lost civilization school (myself, Robert Bauval, Graham and Robert Schoch, along with Egyptologist Dr.. Edmund Meltzer and archeo-astronomer Dr.. Archie Roy) against Dr.. Zahi Hawass, astronomer Ed Krupp (author of.. Ancient Skies.. and many other books on ancient astronomy) and other orthodox scholars.. The week-long event will be devoted to open debate, and to on-site examination of the evidence and counter evidence as well as excursions to the Cairo Museum, Sakkara and other local areas of major interest.. For further information contact:Visions Travel: Tel (US) 1-800-888-5509, or 310-568-0138 or.. e-mail.. The Temple Of Man.. R.. Schwaller de Lubicz's masterwork, The Temple of Man, finally appears in English in an inspired two volume translation by Deborah Lawlor and an equally inspired production job by the publishers.. This book is, in my opinion, the most important single work of scholarship of this, or any other century.. It is a work of pure genius; the more you study it, the more it seems impossible for a single man to have accomplished.. Starting with a single revelatory observation in Egypt in 1937, Schwaller de Lubicz, over the course of some 20 years, was able to piece together the sacred science of the ancients and present it in rigorously documented fashion.. This is not bedtime reading, but readers willing to put in the effort to study it in depth will finally understand why ancient Egypt was regarded by the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome as the source of all wisdom.. Because it was! Readers will come to understand why it has been opposed so virulently by the priesthood of our own Church of Progress and they will also learn to appreciate the manner in which civilized human beings once comported themselves; why Egypt, even in ruins, remains a magnet for travelers; why its temples, tombs and pyramids still, and rightfully, provoke our awe and wonder.. The Temple of Man, by R.. , tr.. by Deborah Lawlor, Inner Traditions International, $195 -- but available steeply discounted through Amazon, Barnes Noble and other major discount book chains.. top.. (People exercising the Land Only Option and/or joining from Europe, can both depart/arrive on 1/29 and avoid having to pay for an extra hotel night.. HOWEVER, you should look for a flight that arrives in Cairo sometime in the afternoon if possible.. Many flights from Europe come in late at night, meaning that people will get very little sleep since we start off for the Giza Plateau early the following morning - a 6AM wakeup call.. Some may prefer to come in a day earlier and get a good night's sleep.. Quest Travel, my Rep in Cairo can make all necessary arrangements if you choose to come early.. I'm not sure how this applies to those coming in to Cairo from the Far East, but since they'll be making up time, maybe they would also depart/arrive on the same day.. back to the top.. Day 3: Giza Pyramids and The Great Sphinx.. We begin with an 8AM private visit to the.. Sphinx.. enclosure.. (It is not open to the public.. ) We spend about 2 hours in the enclosure and around the Sphinx and its adjacent temples.. Lots of geology, but this establishes the validity of the 'Lost Civilization' theory, important for everything that follows.. Also, there are discussions of the many (usually unacknowledged) mysteries involved in building these amazing structures, what lies behind their extraordinary energetic/emotional impact, etc.. We work (walking) our way up the Plateau, past the Old Kingdom tombs of nobles and notables, toward the pyramids.. There is more important evidence along the way (e.. 'Tomb' of Khentkaus, a Queen of Menkaure, the builder of the Third Pyramid).. Also, because few tourists visit these places, we're on our own and get a good visceral sense of what Egypt was like in those distant times.. Up on the Plateau, around the pyramids, there is a lot more evidence (architectural and geological) for the 'Lost Civilization'.. We will examine huge, 200 ton paving blocks we could barely move today, etc.. Two distinct masonry styles and therefore two distinct building periods.. This takes us to between noon and 1 PM, depending upon how much input we get from group members.. There are always lots of questions and if anyone in the group has expertise relevant to and/or complementing my explanations, discussions can be long, lively, detailed and instructive.. Then we visit the so-called.. Solar Boat of Khufu.. This amazing, intact funerary boat, is both a demonstration of the extremely sophisticated woodworking techniques in place 2500 BC and also of the power and wisdom of anchoring the spiritual quest in the material/physical world.. As soon as the spiritual Quest is relegated solely to the intellect, as is generally the case today, it becomes abstract and effectively ineffective.. Lunch.. (Included.. ) By now it's 3 PM, and that's enough for most of us! Evening is free.. Day 4: Sakkara and Dahshur.. 6 AM wake-up call, 7:30 Departure.. It is essential to start punctually and get there at opening bell.. 20 minute bus ride to the.. Sakkara Necropolis.. We start with the Old Kingdom Tombs of the Nobles of the Vth and VIth Dynasties (ca.. 2350 - 2200 BC), with their vibrant, detailed, but apparently quite mundane 'scenes of daily life'.. They are most assuredly scenes of daily life, but more importantly, they are actually metaphors for transformation.. (Even the "Quackademics" are coming around to recognizing this deeper significance, though of course they haven't a clue as to either the meaning or validity of 'transformation').. Sakkara usually gets crowded early so we sometimes have to change our sequence of visits to try to avoid the crowds or even choose alternative tombs to visit.. After the Noble Tombs, we go to and into the.. Sakkara Step Pyramid Complex.. itself, built in the reign of the IIIrd Dynasty Pharoah Zoser (ca.. 2700 BC), under the direction of his genius Master of All Trades, the legendary Imhotep.. Sakkara is supposed to be the first major stone complex in Egypt, and for that matter, the world, but the sophistication of its plan and the virtuosity of its execution makes it hard to believe that it was invented on the spot — like imagining the 2008 Porsche just happened out of the blue.. Nor is it the first major stone complex either.. More on this on site! We discuss Egypt as a 'legacy' not as a 'development'.. Sakkara is also remarkably 'modern' looking, as though it were a new campus for, say, The University of Arizona, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright on a particularly inspired day.. There are reasons for this —.. The interior of the Necropolis enclosure was the scene of the Heb Sed festival, which is best understood as an initiatic process; the culmination of a life of inner work, rather than as physical proof that King was fit to go on reigning (the usual explanation).. We find more evidence for the 'Lost Civilization Theory' (henceforth, LCT) close by the Step Pyramid itself, such as examples of calculated resonance at work in certain strange shrines.. The theme of 'transformation' is expressed in innumerable metaphors.. Egypt is a "One Issue Civilization" — virtually all of its creative energy is devoted to the quest for immortality and the development and perfecting of the soul.. In words, this sounds as though Egypt gets repetitive, but actually it doesn't: any more than successive concerts or baseball games or chess matches are repetitive.. The infinite variations complement/implement the exercise.. By this time, it's around noon.. Lunch is included at a neat outdoor local restaurant.. Great kebabs.. After lunch, it's on to Dahshur, and the Red and 'Bent' Pyramids.. The.. Red Pyramid.. , with its resonating main chambers and earlier megalithic third chamber (quackademics call this a 'plundered tomb chamber'.. It is neither plundered, nor a tomb chamber) is the second most spectacular pyramid after the Great Pyramid.. The Bent Pyramid.. is a generally unrecognized architectural marvel.. 60% of the casing blocks are still in place, so you get a sense of what a completed pyramid once looked like, and the construction methods needed to build it defy explanation.. If there are any architects or builders in our group, have a go at it.. I've read that the Bent Pyramid is now, for the first time ever, open to the public.. If it is, we'll go in.. A first for me, too! End of the day.. On the way back we stop at a carpet factory/school where they weave prize-winning traditional Oriental Carpets but also, unique to Egypt, woven one-of-a-kind wall hangings depicting local, Islamic and underwater Red Sea scenes.. They’re like vivid primitive and often not-so-primitive woven paintings.. Good, imaginative work.. Day 5: Cairo to Luxor.. We embark on a mid-day or early afternoon (we hope! — as opposed to morning) flight to Luxor.. Check into our Nile-side hotel, the Sonesta St.. George.. At 6 PM we visit.. Luxor Temple.. , where R.. Schwaller de Lubicz developed his Symbolist Interpretation: the Temple of Man as a cosmological/physiological map.. We discuss and demonstrate what 'sacred' architecture is, and just why it works the way it does.. By 7:30 or so, the Temple is usually emptying out and we have it nearly to ourselves.. In a chamber that represents the vocal chords we see what is in effect a depiction of the 'Annunciation', the 'god' telling the Queen Mother that she will bear a 'Divine' child, 1350 years before this becomes central to Christianity.. (All along we will be drawing attention to Egyptian doctrines, myths, and metaphors, that are normally associated with Christian doctrine.. Gurdjieff called Egypt 'esoteric Christianity'.. ) We could use more time here, but we don't have it, and getting there earlier is no solution since it's usually jammed then.. Day 6: Luxor – West Bank.. 40 Minute bus ride.. This area is entirely funerary in significance; here we have the massive funerary complexes of the New Kingdom, the Valley of the Kings, where all NK pharaohs are buried, and the well-preserved tombs of the Nobles — related to those we've seen at Sakkara but markedly different in execution and expression.. This is a day much devoted to discussions of Egypt's complex and mysterious funerary beliefs and practices.. If we are mystified, we're not alone.. Even to the New Kingdom Egyptian scribes recording the texts, they are 'mysterious', but in the broadest sense they're comprehensible; they combine the separate but intertwined doctrines: the path of Horus (which becomes the doctrine of 'salvation' in Christian doctrine) and the doctrine of reincarnation (corresponding loosely to the Vedic/Buddhist tradition).. Since to our own "Church of Progress" both these paths lead nowhere, they are more or less dismissed as mumbo jumbo.. But if the Church of Progress priesthood cannot make any sense of them, we can, and the experience of the visit, however, unfamiliar experientially, is nevertheless vivid.. Even the to-us-bizarre practice of elaborate mummification starts to make sense.. We visit.. MEDINET HABU.. THE RAMESSEUM.. (decision to be made last minute).. Medinet Habu is both the Alpha and Omega of Egyptian Cosmology.. It is here that the Eight Primordials come into existence.. These are shadowy entities, both male and female, (portrayed as serpents or frogs) which precede manifestation, and play roles remarkably like the 'vibrating strings' of cutting-edge String or Torsion Theory.. And is also here that storehouses in ancient times held the finished treasures of Egypt, furniture, unguents, musical instruments, jewelry, etc.. , in other words the fruits of all that transformational earthly creative activity.. Medinet Habu is thus both planting time and harvest time.. A little shrine dedicated to the princess Amenerdais, Head of the Chantresses (6th C.. BC) was the inspiration for Verdi's Aida.. The Ramesseum is the mortuary temple of Ramesses the Great, and is less grandiose than the huge Medinet Habu, but very powerful, and it's here that the fallen colossus lies that inspired (in absentia) Shelley's famous poem Ozymandias.. It's amusing to read the poem on site; fine poetry but lousy Egyptology.. We visit the great (but controversial) Queen Hatshepsut's Temple of.. DEIR EL BAHARI.. , the other temple with a peculiarly 'modern' look to it.. To the ancient Egyptians it was 'the most splendid of all' — and so it must have been.. Even in its present state it's pretty spectacular.. We have an early lunch at a lovely, typically rustic, outdoor Egyptian local restaurant, and then on to the.. VALLEY OF THE KINGS.. , where all the kings of the New Kingdom were buried.. Avoiding crowds in the West Bank is problematical but at lunchtime (for everyone else) we'll be relatively crowd-free at this otherwise thronged site.. And we may be able to get special permission (an extra $10 each and worth it) to the closed but particularly vivid and significant tomb of Ramesses VI.. After the Valley of the Kings, we go back to our East Bank hotel.. Day 7: Dendera and Abydos.. An extremely irritating rule in place for over 10 years, obliging us to visit these two great sites as part of an armed convoy, has recently been lifted.. So we're no longer forced to cut our visit short and we can go and come as we please.. This is a serious improvement! But it means an even earlier wake-up call than usual, and 'usual' is bad enough.. We (discreetly!) pack doggy bags at breakfast since there's no place en route that we'd want to stop in for lunch, and we need every minute of this long day for the temples.. Abydos.. , built by Seti I, father of Ramesses the Great, is one of the highest expressions of New Kingdom relief work, most of it in excellent condition, and some with the colors still vibrant.. This is an Osiris temple; Osiris representing the cosmic principle of becoming and return, and also of the divinity immanent within humanity.. En route to Abydos (2 1/2 - 3 hr drive), I talk at length about the Osiris myth (which, historicized, becomes the central doctrine of Christianity, then the story of Hamlet, and most recently, Disney's Lion King) and its relevance to our time, and any other time.. Selective effacing of certain reliefs within the temple is always  ...   high wind early in the morning in the desert.. Have a jacket, and a light sweater or two that will keep you warm at a chill, windy 40°.. Layers are better than one heavy item, since it warms up very rapidly once the sun gets high, and midday temperatures may be in the 80°'s under a bright sun.. The chance of a winter rain shower or two is slight but present in the north.. Also bring gloves and a wool stocking hat or the like.. Remember, once we’re out in the desert, we’re out and it could be a while before we have roof over ourheads and walls around us.. October / November and April / May average around 60 by night, 85 by day in Cairo, warmer to the south.. Perfect.. Bring your bathing suit.. The summer is hot everywhere, very hot in the south (110 and over in the afternoons) but bone dry and there are fewer tourists but still, more than you might expect.. On summer trips we start early and get back by noon or thereabouts and lounge around the pool the rest of the day.. It's unacceptable only to those who really hate the heat.. For others it's not a major problem; certainly better than New York or DC in the 90°'s.. (and such places have no pyramids or Luxor Temples to compensate for the discomfort.. DRESS GEAR.. 100% cotton clothes are best, loose-fitting and comfortable.. In particular, look for a good 4-pocket safari jacket --ideal for carrying the innumerable things you want to carry about and still have instantly accessible.. Everything should be comfortable and practical.. Good safari gear is not universally available.. Look in outdoor/travel specialist catalogues such as Orvis, Eddie Bauer, Norm Thompson (all these are high end) and also Cabela's (very reasonable -- that's my supplier).. Dress clothes are not essential.. But almost everyone likes to get a bit dressed up for the several parties at night, so an outfit or two is not a bad idea.. Women often like to buy the traditional long 'galabiyyas', the long, flowing, comfortable, cotton gown that men wear in rural Egypt, and which, much gussied up with embroidery, serve as tour dress wear (for men, too).. Dress Code:.. The Islamic dress code for women, relatively relaxed in Egypt in any case, (no shorts, arms and head covered) does not apply to ancient Egypt (and never did).. Most of our time is spent at the ancient Egyptian sites, or in towns geared to accommodate tourists.. They are used to women in shorts with arms bared.. But in Cairo or off the beaten track, the dress code is worth observing, if only to avoid hassle -- though the head scarf isn't essential.. Shoes:.. Stout light jogging or walking shoes.. Essential! Chukka boot style is best for keeping sand out of shoes.. Bring sandals as well.. Sun Hat:.. Essential! Cheap effective cotton sunhats are readily available in Egypt if you don't want to bring your own.. My favorite, the old fashioned, (more or less) genuine, colonial pith helmet has re-appeared after a period of apparent extinction and is available, reasonably priced from.. villagehatshop.. They do not, however, fold for easy storage and so need some special care to travel around with.. There s no real need for them in the winter months.. Sun glasses:.. If you like or need to wear them in bright sun, bring them.. The sun is very bright indeed.. Water bottle or canteen:.. Insulated is better.. Cheap army canteens available in Army/Navy stores are fine, though high tech camping versions may represent expensive improvements.. Tote or small back pack:.. Useful for cameras, doggie bags, extra bits of clothing, trail mix, etc.. Colorful cheap canvas totes printed with Pharaonic motifs are readily available in Egypt.. Extra bag:.. Bring a spare, light, folding duffel to take purchases back home.. Cheap, colorful (not very well-made) canvas duffels are available in Egypt.. Camera Equipment.. Film cameras are now on the Endangered Technology list.. If you re still using one, bring the film of your choice with you; you might not find what you want in Egypt any longer.. For the digitized, bring appropriate spare memory sticks, just in case.. Use of a flash is not permitted in temple interiors -- which poses a problem for cameras with an automatic built-in flash feature.. If you try keeping your finger over the flash, the camera won't adjust to the proper larger lens aperture and slower speed needed to get a decent shot.. It is now also illegal to use a camera in any of the tombs or museums.. Video Cameras:.. More or less the same restrictions apply, with a few additional wrinkles.. You cannot use a tripod, but a monopod is OK.. usually.. (There's bureaucracy for you!).. Medicine:.. Bring a two week supply of any medication that you need on a regular basis and think might be difficult to procure in Egypt.. Bring contact lens spares, glasses, etc.. Blowing sand can be a problem with contacts.. Bring a pair of spare glasses just in case the problem becomes acute.. If you have a favorite sun block, bring it; otherwise this and other normal toiletries are available at hotel concessions and elsewhere.. Mosquito repellent is useful.. The best antidote for bites is probably 100% Aloe gel, available in health food stores.. Laundry:.. Laundry service is swift and efficient and not outrageously expensive, given normal 5 Star Hotel charges.. If you don t want to splurge on this option, either bring enough clothes so that you don't need to use the laundry service or bring Woolite or another cold water wash.. With the new breathable, super lightweight, quick-dry nylon supplex gear readily available, you can get through the trip with just a few items of clothing for the entire trip.. A couple of yards of nylon clothesline and clothes pins will also come in handy.. Flashlight:.. Essential, and invariably useful.. The brighter the better.. Binoculars:.. Optional, but useful -- especially small, easy-to-carry, high powered, field glasses.. Odds and Ends, Miscellaneous, Afterthoughts:.. A few Ziploc bags of various sizes come in handy to keep things separate from other things, to prevent leaky bottles, etc.. , and often so does a bit of duct tape for emergency luggage repairs and the like.. A box of man-size tissues is useful and so are pocket packs of Kleenex.. Travel pillow: Those little U-shaped, inflatable travel pillows (available in luggage shops, mail order houses, and, usually, airports) take some of the stress off your neck on the long plane and bus rides.. MAKE A FEW XEROXES OF THE INFORMATION PAGE OF YOUR PASSPORT.. After an obligatory initial surrendering of your passport at our first hotel stop (to have it registered with the police) you can use the Xerox wherever your passport is needed without having to give it up.. HEALTH:.. No shots are needed for Egypt.. A number of very nasty diseases are rife among the rural poor of Egypt, mainly acquired from unsanitary conditions; swimming in the stagnant canals, etc.. But these do not affect the tourist trade at all.. 'Pharaoh's Revenge'.. is usually the worst that tourists come down with.. It's no fun, but is usually over in a day.. In the event.. hits, a bacterial antiseptic called Antinel (nifuroxazide - whatever that may be) is readily available in Egypt, apparently formulated for the infamous revenge -- even though no one is sure what causes it in the first place.. It works, especially if taken at the onset of symptoms.. Whatever the thinking behind it, Antinel works better than Lomotil or anything else people get from their doctors over here.. There seem to be few if any side effects.. Beyond that, the 'Revenge' is unpredictable.. On some trips almost no one comes down with it, yet on another identical trip just a few weeks later or earlier, almost everyone comes down with it.. No one knows why.. It is thought that megadoses of acidopholous starting at least six weeks before departure works as a preventative.. A pharmacist tells me that to really be effective, you should take much more acidopholous than the label suggests: up to six tablets twice a day and always on an empty stomach.. The newly developed Primadopholous is supposed to have the same effect, taken once a day on an empty stomach.. I am not really 100% certain if the acidopholous works or if it's a health fiction.. I know of no legitimate controlled tests.. But it does seem as though those who take the pills get very mild cases, and are over it quicker than those who don't.. Jet lag.. combined with overstimulation is often a problem in the early days of the trip.. I find that Melatonin, much touted as a jet lag antidote, works brilliantly.. Calms Forte, a homeopathic sedative (available in health food stores) also lets you sleep your way out without the usual sleeping pill side-effects of drowsiness and heaviness.. There is also another new homeopathic remedy specifically formulated to prevent Jetlag, called, straightforwardly enough NoJetlag.. Otherwise, bringing the sleeping pill of your choice is not a bad idea.. Heartburn.. The food is good in Egypt these days; usually very good.. But it's a different cuisine and the American/Westernized stomach often grumbles in response.. Papaya Enzyme pills from the health food store seem to counteract acidity better than Rolaids or the like.. Hunger pangs:.. We are up early, and out at the sites for long hours so there are often protracted periods between meals.. Egyptian-style snacks from local vendors are not recommended for the unacclimatized.. It's not a bad idea to bring a supply of Trail Mix or some other homegrown snack of your choice.. We often pack individual doggie bags for ourselves at breakfast (sometimes these become lunch) but even so, snacks come in handy.. Note:.. Though we stay in deluxe accommodations throughout, the trip itself is more arduous than many people anticipate.. We are up early; we do a lot of walking and climbing and the impact of so much sacred art day after day takes its toll.. This is not to discourage the elderly.. On my trips the young get no less exhausted than the septuagenarians.. But be prepared for an assault on your inner resources.. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.. RECOMMENDED READING LIST.. There is no single preferred way to prepare for Egypt.. Many like to read everything they can that's relevant in advance; others prefer to read little or nothing, or just never get around to their homework before the plane leaves.. Actually, it is a matter of personal preference.. A familiarity with the principles and terminology of the 'Symbolist' interpretation obviously provides a head start toward understanding.. But it is no substitute for the experience and a solid reading background in general can lead to preconceptions and expectations that have to be dispelled over the course of the trip.. On the other hand, going in 'cold' with little or no homework done leaves you open, and the temples perform their stone magic with little or no internal or intellectual opposition.. Many prefer it that way after the fact.. After two weeks of Egypt, you have acquired both the experience and the explanation in tandem and you come back to your homework (usually exhausted but exhilarated).. What you read now makes visceral sense and you have the context of experience.. In other words, if you haven't time to do your homework in advance, don't fret about it.. Following is a selected list of the books that I consider most useful as advance reading.. More complete bibliographies can be found in both.. Serpent in the Sky.. The Traveler's Key.. (Note: I have tried to list only books in print or that you stand a fair chance of finding in a bookstore or library.. Asterisks single out those I consider most important for advance reading.. But I'll have the computer with me and should be in relatively easy email contact for anyone needing further information.. The next few days may determine the near-term (and maybe the long-term) future of tourism in Egypt.. As it now stands, despite political unrest, nobody so far is out to get.. US.. This is the important thing to remember.. Apart from the loony religious Salafists (not really Muslims, but rather, Muslimbeciles) the Egyptians.. like.. having us there and need having us there, and so far this applies even to the ultra-conservatives.. at least in the sense that they're not making trouble.. But the result of the political unrest, which is pretty much the only aspect of the ongoing situation that is covered substantially by the media, is to scare away tourists.. Tourism is now running at under 40%, which is terrible for Egypt's always fragile economy, but a huge plus for us.. The temples, pyramids, tombs and museums, relatively uncrowded, make for a very different Egypt experience!.. I could be very wrong about this, but my hunch is that the military and the moderates of the Muslim Brotherhood will reach some sort of workable compromise (if for no other reason than to keep the loonies at bay.. ) If that happens and Egypt is perceived as stable, one consequence will be a resurgence of tourism.. In other words, the window of opportunity to experience Egypt uncrowded may close, and pretty quickly.. By October, it could be business almost as usual.. And if a workable compromise.. isn't.. effected, then Egypt could well descend into chaos, and governments might actually make it illegal for their citizens to go there.. The U.. S.. did that during Gulf War I.. It could happen.. So, for the above reasons, anyone interested in a trip would do well to act sooner rather than later, if at all possible.. I do hope March happens, and hope you're aboard.. Regards,.. While I do not make excuses for getting this information out so late, it is a fact that I am busier than I have ever been in my already long life.. All sorts of interesting projects are in the offing, and I will do my best to get an account of this out to everyone and up on the website some time soon.. A brief message.. more to come.. sooner or later.. Coming soon - I hope - in depth reviews of some significant, recently published books and other new material.. Lately, I've been snowed under working with my old friend and colleague, trend forecaster Gerald Celente.. Most of the stuff going on now, he (we) predicted long ago, and there is more -much of it unwelcome- to come.. Google up Gerald as well.. Best,.. 0:.. Everyone is familiar with the.. Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.. , though not all know their pedigree.. It’s the name given to the revelation of the future granted to St John on the Isle of Patmos.. The horsemen themselves are Pestilence, War, Famine and Death (not necessarily in that order, depending upon which reference is consulted.. ) Their names (which might disincline people from wanting to bet on them in the Kentucky Derby) have made the word ‘apocalypse’ almost synonymous with Doomsday, which is, strictly speaking, incorrect.. It derives from a Greek word meaning to ‘reveal’ or ‘disclose’ and by extension , it means a prophesy or vision of the future, not necessarily an ominous one.. Doomsday is quite another matter, more appropriately  ...   those beliefs might mean for us living today.. Most of the speakers at CPAK 2007 have some suspicion that our histories of the world may not be correct and that ancient knowledge may be more profound than modern textbooks have led us to believe.. Still, we seek proof and understanding.. To this purpose we gather on an annual basis to examine the evidence, explore new findings and new theories, as we try to better understand the past and the subtle forces that may be affecting the present and future world around us.. Now through September 1, 2007, registration for the conference is just $239.. That’s $60 off the registration fee at the door and well below the fees of other similar events.. Additionally, If you sign up and get a friend to register as well (and they enter your name in the ‘How did you hear about CPAK’ field on the registration form) then both of you will receive a free copy of the award winning documentary ‘The Great Year’ written by Walter Cruttenden and narrated by James Earl Jones.. This year’s Conference on Precession and Ancient Knowledge is shaping up to be one the most unique and inspiring events of its kind and I look forward to seeing you there at the UC San Diego in beautiful La Jolla, California this fall.. To sign up today, please visit.. cpakonline.. or call 949.. 399.. 0306.. I hope to see a lot of you there!.. jaw.. 0: CPAK, 11TH HOUR, STAN TENEN on Coast to Coast, Egypt in October.. Friends, Grockles, Egyptophiles,.. This brief update is to remind you, if you've not yet done it or have forgotten, that I'll be speaking at two very interesting venues in upcoming months.. 1 2.. CPAK (Conference on Precession and Ancient Knowledge) Oct.. 5-7, 2007, and 11TH Hour down in Mexico, NOV 11th-17th.. For full details, rosters of unusual and informed speakers, etc.. please go to my website www.. net and click on the relevant links.. Both of these conferences promise to be extraordinarily valuable and will deal with material not easily encountered elsewhere, in any event, not in one place and of course, not 'in person'.. 3.. COMING UP MUCH SOONER (August 5/6): Stan Tenen will be interviewed on Coast to Coast.. Tenen is hardly a household name (at this moment) but he's been doing groundbreaking scholarship for decades on the origins of the Hebrew alphabet, and on the hidden (in plain sight) profound cosmological / geometrical / metaphysical aspects of the Torah.. His work is by no means easy to follow, but it has recently received a huge (if inadvertent) boost from new discoveries in Establishment Science.. An essay by him will shortly appear in an M.. I.. publication.. (Those readers who've been following the ongoing battle all us 'alternative' scholars are obliged to wage in in our respective fields will appreciate what's involved in a consent-to-publish by M.. !).. Once the essentials are grasped, you will understand that Tene's work is not only important scientific scholarship and a demonstration of the depth of knowledge available to ancient civilizations, but it also has the potential to actually make constructive waves within the current political/philosophical dilemma facing our beleaguered planet.. With three hours to explain, expound and answer questions on air, you'll get an idea of what's involved.. Listen in or download.. Here are details:.. Stan's segment is from 2-5AM Eastern Time, Monday August 6 (on the West Coast, that's 11PM-2AM Pacific Time, Sunday/Monday August 5/6), and people can go to.. meru.. org.. (Stan's website) for more information.. You can google up Coast to Coast to find a local station carrying the show.. 4.. EGYPT TRIPS.. The upcoming Egypt trip (Oct.. 23 - Nov.. 3) now has enough people signed on to make it fly.. But I could sure use a few more! I'd very much appreciate it if those of you who've been on my trips and know what's involved would get the word out to friends, family, co-workers.. the world at large.. More coming soon.. as and when I get my act together.. (I am one of those unfortunates born with TWO Achille's Heels, and both of them are organization.. John Anthony West.. 17.. 3.. John Neal is a good friend of my good friend and colleague John Michell.. He's written a study of ancient measures that may just have solved a long-standing and deeply intractable mystery that that has baffled metrologists at least since Newton's time (metrology is the science/study of measures.. ) It's long been known that all ancient measures are internally related to each other; measures in Greece, Rome, Persia, India, wherever are precise fractions of each other, a fact that has led metrologists to look for the ur-measure that spawned them all.. I think John Neal may have found it.. See his.. for an introduction to his work.. Serious researchers will want his book.. Details on the website.. Recommended before, but a reminder:.. A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO CONSTRUCTING THE UNIVERSE.. by Michael Schneider.. I've been re-reading this lately and cannot recommend it too highly.. Many years ago, I had the idea, (in fact even a contract that I never fulfilled ) to write just a book.. When Michael's came out, I had to acknowledge that mine would not have been as good; different, certainly, but probably nowhere near as accessible or as practical.. False modesty has never been one of my vices nor (as a good friend once said:) real modesty one of my virtues, but this is a truly important book.. If you're on this email hotlist you should have it!.. SHOWING UP: An Action Plan for Metaphysical Growth and Following Your Bliss,.. Stratton Horres, Michala Perrault.. Though this title may ring New Agey, it is in fact a practical book; a step-by-step guide to putting yourself into the receptive state necessary to experience Egyptian temples and other sacred sites as they were meant to be experienced.. Comes with an Introduction by Zahi Hawass.. Check Amazon or.. email the authors.. (Michala Perreault).. Worthwhile Books (some of them not all that new but under-publicized):.. Beyond the Big Bang: Ancient Cosmology and the Science of  ...   extensive, careful and refreshingly uninflammatory rebuttal of our geological work.. This is a useful summary.. By setting out the orthodox game plan as it were, we are able to better plan our own campaign of rebuttal.. TRENDS 2000.. by Gerald Celente, Warner Books, $14.. The Origin Map: Discovery of a Prehistoric Megalithic Astrophysical Map and Sculpture of the Universe.. by Thomas Brophy, Foreword by Robert M.. Schoch, Afterword by John Anthony West.. A physicist/archeoastronomer drastically re-evaluates and upgrades the interpretation of the megalithic stone circle at Nabta Playa in the Southern Sahara, tentatively dated ca 5000 BC.. If Brophy is even partly correct, this will stand as a major contribution to our new understanding of the very ancient past.. See for transcript of a recent.. radio interview.. with Thomas Brophy and Linda Moulton Howe for Coast-to-Coast.. The Matrix of Creation: Techonology of the Gods.. by Richard Heath, Bluestone Press, St Dogmaels, Wales.. See their website.. for a description, ordering information -- and comments by others as impressed by this remarkable book as I am.. Many authors have pondered and wondered how the 'Music of the Spheres' is actually scored; many have written knowledgeably about this subject.. It clear that the ancients had a very elaborate and precise understanding of this celestial music which they encoded in myth, art and architecture and number symbolism.. My Heart My Mother: Death and Rebirth in Ancient Egypt.. , by Alison Roberts.. Alison Roberts is one of the few credentialed Egyptologists sympathetic to the Symbolist view, and she brings to her work a rare combination of erudition and sensitivity.. Her previous book was the excellent study Hathor Rising.. This new work extends and explores the dual aspects of Hathor/Sekhmet divine femininity, or 'heart wisdom' as it pertains to Egyptian life, religion, ritual and architecture.. No American edition as yet.. Order through.. Amazon.. in the UK.. Homer's Secret Iliad.. by Florence Kenneth Wood.. This book is a Greek version of William Sullivan's fine book.. Secret of the Incas.. , which shows, I think conclusively, that much ancient mythology must be interpreted as an extended mnemonic conveying extremely precise astronomical information.. In this case, the Iliad drama encodes astronomical data going back thousands of years prior to the rise of Greece as a civilization.. The 'heroes' are stars, planets and constellations and the Trojan War itself becomes a kind of time released planetarium in story form.. The authors have little or no interest in, or sympathy with the astrological aspect of the drama, but I'm convinced that this represents the deeper dimension of that ancient preoccupation with astronomy.. Also not available in the U.. Sacred Sexuality in Ancient Egypt: The Erotic Secrets of the Forbidden Papyri.. by Ruth Schumann-Antelme, Stephane Rossini, Jon Graham (Illustrator),.. Inner Traditions International.. Given the sophistication of ancient Egypt, it was always hard to believe that its metaphysical doctrine did not have a tradition of sexual, divine magic within it somewhere.. It did, but buried in archives our priggish scholars have chosen to ignore all this time.. Dr.. Antelme, an Egyptologist at the Sorbonne, had access to those archives and here reveals the erotic, esoteric and cosmological aspects of Egyptian sexual teachings.. VOYAGES OF THE PYRAMID BUILDERS.. by Robert M.. My colleague Robert Schoch's previous book.. was a state-of-the-art statement on 'catastrophe theory', the idea that in the not so distant past (ca.. 12000 BC) the earth was rocked by a tremendous catastrophe (possibly a strike by an asteroid, bolide or comet) that almost instantly annihilated a large proportion of the larger land mammals then roaming the globe -- mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses, saber-toothed tigers and many others.. The extinction of those mammals is of course a matter of record as are the accompanying radical and permanent climatic changes; the North American ice sheet melted, temperate Siberia became tundra, sea levels rose over three hundred feet.. There is no argument about the event itself.. The bolide/ asteroid/ comet theory is, in scientific circles, controversial to a certain extent, but generally 'respectable'.. That is to say, there is no doubt whatever that something disastrous happened; there is debate over the exact nature of its cause.. The real controversy swirls about the state of human civilization at that time and prior to it.. The accepted academic view is that mankind was in a state of global hunter-gatherer development.. I.. , no civilization to speak of in our currently held definition of that word.. John Anthony West may be contacted through The Sphinx Project, 675 Manorville Rd.. Saugerties, NY 12477, USA.. • Title: SEKHMET SPEAKS - Part Five
Descriptive info: SEKHMET SPEAKS - Part Five.. PATRIOTISM: A SECOND OPINION.. Normally Sekhmet pays little attention to politics, regarding it essentially as an exercise in futility.. But one overlooked aspect of the current American political scene has caught her eye.. The scenario is familiar to all.. The American president (and also Grand Sheriff) George W.. Bush has thrown down his philosophical gauntlet, declaring, 'If you ain't with us, you're agin' us'.. He and his posse brand all those agin' as 'unpatriotic.. ' Alleged unpatriotism is equated with 'aiding the terrorists', effectively treason.. The accused deny the charge, staunchly defending their patriotism; citing dissent as the very essence of patriotism.. This confrontation interests, bemuses and yet saddens Sekhmet, for she finds that no one, not one politician, no journalist, no TV commentator, no one anywhere --as far as she is able to determine-- has bothered to look at patriotism itself.. So she has taken that look and reports:.. Patriotism is not a virtue; it is a pathological condition.. Patriotism provides a surrogate soul for nonentities who have never developed souls of their own.. (Yes, Virginia, there is a soul, but, like a talent for music or baseball, it must be developed.. No development, no music, no baseball, no soul.. ).. Patriotism is inherently confrontational, divisive and destructive.. The familiar bumper sticker reads: GOD BLESS AMERICA.. But the  ...   on Sekhmet's list of Ten Stupidest Statements Ever Uttered by a Human Being.. It is like saying, 'My father! May he never kill or rape, but killer or rapist, my father!'.. Having diagnosed the malady, prescribing a cure remains problematical.. The normal Washington response to any problem, real or perceived, is to declare war on it.. But the wars on Drugs, Poverty and Crime are losing battles.. Moreover, a War on Patriotism has a genetic illogic to it.. Who would fight it? The Unpatriotic? True, America is winning the War on the Environment, (unconditional surrender is due any day now).. It's unlikely, however, that a War on Patriotism would attract the same marshaled support from government and corporate forces.. The only hope, according to Sekhmet, lies in a massive, across-the-board recognition of patriotism for what it is, a tragic but repugnant psychological affliction -like pedophilia, but more dangerous- incurable yet broadly containable via applied public pressure.. In other words: when patriots have the same social status of child molesters then, and only then, is there any possibility for peace to prevail.. Sekhmet notes that intelligent, informed, considered solidarity in the face of real danger (not pretend danger like Iraq) is the constructive approach.. This must not, under any circumstances, be confused with patriotism.. Sekhmet Speaks 1.. Sekhmet Speaks 2.. Sekhmet Speaks 3.. Sekhmet Speaks 4..

  • Title: John Anthony West’s Credentials
Descriptive info: is a writer, scholar and Pythagorean, born in New York City.. He is the author of.. , and consulting editor for the Traveler's Key series.. His previous book,.. is an exhaustive study of the revolutionary Egyptological work of the French mathematician and Orientalist, the late R.. The Case for Astrology.. , John Anthony West presents compelling new evidence that proves the astrological premise: that correlations exist between events in the sky and on earth, and that correspondences exist between the human personality and the positions of the planets at birth.. Mr.. West has published a novel and many short stories; his plays have been produced on stage, television and radio, and he writes articles, essays and criticism for The New York Times Book Review, Conde Nast's  ...   years.. West set out to test the hypothesis that the Sphinx was much older than its conventional date of 2500 BC.. His findings provide the first hard evidence that an earlier age of civilization preceded the known development of civilization in the Nile valley.. John Anthony West is today the leading authority and proponent of the 'Symbolist' school of Egyptology, an alternative interpretation of ancient Egyptian culture advanced by the French scholar and philosopher, R.. Schwaller de Lubicz (1891-1962).. In the Symbolist view, Egyptian architecture and art disclose a richer and more universal wisdom than conventional Egyptology has assumed.. West.. lectures.. extensively on Egypt and personally leads several in-depth study tours to Egypt every year.. If you're interested in travelling to Egypt with John Anthony West,..

  • Title: RIP. Boris Said
Descriptive info: Those on this list who have been following the long, convoluted progress of the Sphinx theory and all that relates to it may be familiar with Boris's name and with his role in producing our video, MYSTERY OF THE SPHINX.. Without that video, the theory and all the rest would be relegated to a distant back burner on an obscure stove somewhere.. Boris's name and his memory are tied in my mind inextricably to that project.. Those who met Boris at any time over the course of his 69 years, even briefly, probably will not have forgotten him; physically powerful, radiating an almost superhuman, high octane intensity, with a quick, coarse humor and and even quicker, coarser temper, infinitely resourceful especially when his back was to the wall -- which it usually was, since he found ways to make sure that's where it stayed.. Boris Said (pronounced Sa-yeed - half Russian, half Persian) was a memorable, unique (well, we are all unique, but some are more unique than others) larger-than-life character, ex-race driver (Ferrari/Porsche -- sports cars, never made Formula driving) ex-Captain of the U.. Olympic Bobsled team, absolutely fearless; a man of endless anecdotes, endlessly dreaming up admirable projects, indefatigably organizing film crews, support, sponsors, finances and then, almost as if programmed, finding ways to sabotage these projects just prior to completion, bringing everyone involved down with the ship, including himself.. As self-destructive as he was destructive, Boris made many enemies; and unfortunately kept but few friends.. One of these days, in the multi-volume autobiography I work on sporadically, the Book of Boris section will be vivid reading, and it won't be brief.. I do not know exactly who or what the demon was that drove him, but driven he was, only very rarely arriving at his chosen destination.. There was a memorial service for him in New York, attended, I'm told, by a couple of dozen people he'd somehow managed not to alienate.. I wasn't included in the invitation list; perhaps because it was feared I might stand up and say pretty much what I'm saying here, and I would have, so this was a wise decision.. (I can never understand this custom of eulogizing  ...   how destructive and divisive he was and uniting to prevent him from scuttling it before it was complete, that we managed to rescue it.. It was a hair's breadth escape at that.. Later we learned he'd managed to plunder close to $150,000 out of the till along the way.. So, successful as the show was, (one of the most successful documentaries ever made) it ended up, and to this day remains, deep in the red.. But MYSTERY OF THE SPHINX is not just another documentary.. A financial debacle it was, certainly; but much more than finance is at stake in terms of science, scholarship, the history and possibly even the future of human civilization itself.. If our Sphinx theory is endorsed by the geology panel we intend to bring to Egypt in the near term future, and if that produces the desired impact, forcing a radical rewriting across a spectrum of disciplines, Boris will have played a key, unique and absolutely essential role in that process.. Nobody else could have or would have done what he did.. Without him there would be nothing.. I do not know if plea bargaining is allowed in the Great Court of Osiris, but if it is, I like to think that his role in making this show happen, thereby generating all that followed.. (and that is yet to come) will be placed on the feather-side of Ma'at's balance.. For the heart side, I suspect, will not be light.. While we were working on the show, before relations got edgy, and long before I realized the extent of the wholesale financial plunder, Boris started calling me Pharoah (a role I was never very comfortable with! Royal Scribe, maybe, OK.. But Pharoah? No.. not my style.. ) Anyway, I retaliated by calling him 'General' for which he was, at least in principle, much better suited.. I can think of nothing Boris would like less in death than to have people wish him: Rest in Peace!.. My own posthumous message would be: No, don't rest in peace.. Charge!!! But this time, if you're given another chance on that battlefield, train your weapons on the enemy! Not on your own troops and yourself! Understood?.. Adios, General!..
