Proposal deadline is September 1, 2013.. More and more, the concept of embodiment or embodied faith is emerging in debates found in youth ministry research.. A plea for a bodily or physical approach in youth ministry, in a way, contrasts with the more and more digitalized world and life of young people.. Although the internet and new (social) media can enhance multisensory experiences, we need to recognize that the digital world by definition lacks the physical closeness of people in it.. At the same time, tough, it could still be asked how powerful ´old media´ and forms of aesthetics are in embodying faith? What does this mean for the development of youth ministry, the work of youth ministers and research into the field of youth ministry? The IASYM 2014 European conference is aiming at reflecting the importance of the body, embodiment and multisensory experiences of faith for the field of youth ministry.. The Executive Board of the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry invites you to submit a proposal.. for a paper to be delivered at the next biennial European meeting of the Association, which will be held in the Czech Republic, April 23-26, 2014.. The conference provides a unique opportunity for youth ministry scholars to join with other researchers and educators from across the globe to engage in thoughtful reflection around a range of theological, cultural, and sociological issues which intersect with the discipline  ...   Hand - New York Times.. • Title: The International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry - CALL FOR PAPERS - European Conference 2014
Descriptive info: The theme "Embodiment in youth ministry - in digitalized and other ways" is central to the four keynote lectures during the conference.. Paper proposals, however, do not need to be linked up with the central theme.. We would like the conference to provide for a variety of perspectives and research interests that advance the purpose of IASYM, which is to further "the study, research, and teaching of youth ministry internationally.. " Of course, it is excellent if your proposal can be related to the central theme, however, this is not necessary.. A blind review process is used for the selection of proposals.. There are two levels of acceptance: elective papers, and emerging research.. Elective papers are meant to present research of scholars already active in teaching and research.. Emerging research is open to new scholars who would like to receive feedback from more experienced researchers, and for those in the initial stages of research who desire input from other members of the association.. Proposal acceptance is based primarily on quality and relevance to the purpose of the Association, with additional consideration given to diversity of geographical context and disciplinary perspectives which reflect the ecumenical ethos of  ...   of the Association's Journal of Youth and Theology, Jos de Kock: at adekock@pthu.. nl.. Please include your name and all contact information in your initial email, with the proposal attached.. In addition, please indicate whether your proposal is meant as an elective paper, or as a presentation of emerging research.. TIMELINE FOR SUBMISSIONS.. The following timeline is in effect and proposals not submitted in a timely manner will not be considered.. September 1, 2013.. - Proposals received by Jos de Kock, at adekock@pthu.. October 1, 2013.. - Acceptance notification and feedback by the academic committee.. February 1, 2014.. - Completed, full-text papers returned to Jos de Kock at adekock@pthu.. You are strongly encouraged to submit a proposal for inclusion at our 2014 conference.. We value the contributions of all of our members, as we benefit from a variety of voices from around the globe who share our commitment to the academic discipline of youth ministry.. Also non-members can submit a paper and present their work, provided they consider a IASM-membership status.. Additional details about the conference, including more detailed information about the venue, will become available in the coming months on our website www.. iasym.. org..
