Diploma thesis is online.. After six long years I finally graduated at university and got my diploma in computer sciences.. I did some research in the field of Artifical Intelligence for Skat again.. The diploma thesis is available.. online in full text.. Last render with POV-Ray.. I'm sorry, but today I did probably my.. last render.. with POV-Ray.. I found Blender and like it very much for modelling.. Maybe I'll use POV-Ray for rendering my next pictures.. Bachelor thesis is done.. Last year I did a lot of programming for my computer Skat programm.. and my bachelor thesis.. New picture in gallery.. Was it really in 2002 when I added my last  ...   I have to come back to still renderings.. That's why I participated in the POV-Ray Fractal Raytracing Contest.. And don't forget to visit my.. Why b0n541.. If you ask yourself what b0n541 means here is the answer:.. When I'm surfing the net I use the nick name Bonsai.. But unfortunately there is very much bonsai stuff in the net.. There was no way to get a domain like 'bonsai.. something'.. On the other hand I don't want to get sued by someone because I used their company name as a domain.. So I decided to change all letters in bonsai with a number if possible.. Some time ago I did a picture of boule spheres.. It became very famous in the Google image search: Place #1 when you search for 'boule'.. :-D On the.. Blender 3D Model Repository.. I found a good seamless texture for a dirt ground.. That's why I reloaded the old boule spheres.. Let's see if it can beat the old ones on Google.. This is probably my last render done entirely in POV-Ray.. Over the last months I worked into Blender and I find it simpler to model complex scenes there because of the direct visual feedback.. Source code (~900 KB).. Digital reconstruction of the Wiprecht castle.. I did this digital reconstruction for  ...   at least I got a "Maintainers choice" credit.. I used three point lightening for the first time.. Source code (~2 KB).. Pocket Knife.. The pocket knife is my most detailed model so far.. All parts are hand coded.. The nice metallic reflections appeared after I put a box with some photos of my home around the knife just for fun.. I was very excited how easy it is to simulate a real environment.. Thing Without A Name No.. 2.. This came out on a boring afternoon.. I tried very hard, but I was not able to find a name.. So it's 'Thing Without A Name No.. 2'.. Boule.. Boule is a game I often play with my friends in the summer time.. It comes from France and there it is also called Pétanque.. The ground was made with the help of the people of the povray.. binaries.. images newsgroup at news.. povray.. org.. I strongly recommend this group for all who have not heard of it until now..

    Descriptive info: Title.. Monte Carlo Simulation im Skat.. Background.. A lot of AI research about the card game of Bridge was done in the last years.. The similarities between the card games Bridge and Skat arose the idea to adopt and enhance the results for AI Bridge players on AI Skat players.. The use of Monte Carlo simulations for finding a play strategy was investigated in the bachelor thesis.. In contrast to previous works on this field the incomplete information about the opponent cards was maintained.. It was investigated whether keeping the information incomplete leads to better game playing or not.. In games with complete information the best strategies could  ...   information about the opponent cards in the simulated worlds during the Monte Carlo simulations plays at the same level as an AI player with complete information.. The approach of simulating a possible world and playing the game in this world with skat heuristics was significantly faster than the searching for the best strategy in a game with complete information.. This fact leaves space for further improvements or more simulations.. Thesis.. Unfortunately the thesis is written in German and will certainly not be translated into English in the future..     Descriptive info: The UCT Algorithm Applied to Games with Imperfect Information.. Abstract.. The UCT algorithm was already used to search the best strategy in games with perfect information.. The algorithm is known to handle games with high branching factors in the search tree very well.. For the game of Go a computer player was implemented that uses the UCT algorithm and was able to cope with the best computer Go players.. For games with imperfect information, this algorithm is now used for the first time.. For the card game of Skat an implementation of the UCT algorithm is available that uses the algorithm in all three phases of the Skat game.. These phases are bidding, discarding and playing the tricks.. To be able to use the algorithm all unknown information must be replaced by simulated information.. After that, the UCT algorithm can be used as in  ...   program it is possible to let AI players compete against other AI players in games with predefined card distributions.. Every player is given then the same chances to make all games.. In games against human players a normal Skat series is simulated.. The UCT player can keep up with other computer players.. Although it might not have reached its highest playing strength.. The best combination of parameters is still to be found.. The number of simulations the player can compute in a reasonable time for each move decision is also too low.. The presented implementation is not optimized for speed, yet.. Higher numbers of simulations will result in a higher playing strength.. The UCT player can also keep up with human players.. It looses the Skat series only due to conservative bidding..     Descriptive info: Informations about this castle from the 11th century can be found in the.. This reconstruction is based on the results of the excavations done in the 1960s.. The radiositiy settings are very low at the moment.. That's why a lot of artifacts are visible.. I'll upload better versions later..

    Descriptive info: Escher Dices.. M.. C.. Escher.. made great drawings with geometric shapes.. Who knows what he would have created if he had a computer with POV-Ray.. This picture shows one of his famous shapes.. Source code (~1 KB).. Thing Without A Name.. After playing with while-loops this one came out.. I especially like the wood texture.. It's a standard wood texture that comes with povray.. I only added some reflection.. Glass Dices.. I owned  ...   want.. Fractal Landscape.. I'm also interested in fractals.. So I created a fractal image with a fractal program.. After adding some smoothness it was ready for the heightfield.. That's it.. Simple and fast.. Source code (~197 KB).. First Attempt.. This was my first attempt on povray.. It's not the famous reflective sphere on checkered floor everyone 'has' to make as first picture.. ;-) I've not known this when I was creating this picture..
