  • Title: Burntisland, Fife - About Burntisland.Net
Descriptive info: About Burntisland.. This website is owned by me - Iain Sommerville, a resident of Burntisland.. It was started as a personal hobby in the early months of 2000.. At that time there wasn't a great deal of online information available about Burntisland, and I had some material which could be uploaded fairly quickly.. The website has grown considerably since then, but in a relatively unplanned way for its first ten years.. Many of the additions (including a lot of photos) have come from visitors, and I'm very grateful to everyone who has contributed.. In March 2010, I decided to make some improvements.. The colour scheme was freshened up and the contents reorganised.. The navigation was significantly improved by the introduction of javascript fly-out menus.. A guestbook and a more powerful search engine were added, both in-house.. I'm grateful to Ian Archibald for allowing me to use one of his photos as the basis of the banner at the top of each page (to see a larger version of the original photo, please click.. - opens in a new window).. In November 2011, I made changes to the '.. Recent Photos.. '.. I removed the collection of 66 low resolution photos and in their place added 349 higher resolution photos, divided into nine categories.. At the same time I added thumbnails to the '.. Old Photos.. ' page.. In the same month, because of constraints on server capacity and bandwidth usage, the website was moved to a new hosting company.. The website remains a personal hobby.. However it has become - by accident, not design - Burntisland's main website.. I've therefore been happy to include unofficial pages for.. (with their agreement).. The website also includes a section which is the official web presence of.. In addition, I try to keep the.. local links page.. comprehensive and up to date.. There is of course plenty of scope for new Burntisland websites.. In the meantime, I'll continue to be as responsive to general community needs as I can!.. The website has always been, and will remain, non-commercial.. However, as there are  ...   the left hand frame are not displayed.. The problem is solved by going to Safari settings, and clicking on the 'Privacy' tab and then on 'Remove All Website Data.. '.. Alternatively you can use the.. Another problem which appeared was, when downloading PDF files from the website to a computer with Windows XP and Adobe Reader 9, files would not download fully.. The solution was to upgrade to Adobe Reader X (version 10).. Some people have said that, when they try to view the latest version of a page, they get an old version.. This is usually caused by the browser settings.. To overcome this, for example in Internet Explorer (under Tools, Internet Options, General, Browsing history, Settings), the setting for Check for newer version of stored pages should be changed to Automatically.. Website display.. :.. One of the easiest ways to change the way a webpage is displayed is to use the browser's 'Zoom' setting.. This can be found on the 'View' menu of Internet Explorer and Firefox.. It is the easiest way to change the size of the text.. Bookmarking pages.. : This site uses frames, and the usual method of bookmarking individual pages may not work.. It is however still easy to bookmark pages:.. With Internet Explorer - right click on the page you want to bookmark; then select 'Add to Favorites.. With Firefox - right click on the page you want to bookmark; select 'This Frame', and then 'Bookmark This Frame'.. With Safari - right click on the page you want to bookmark and select 'Open frame in new tab'; you can then go to the new tab and bookmark the page in the.. normal way.. With Chrome - as for Safari, but unfortunately the facility isn't available in the later versions.. If you have problems with the website.. :.. If you have problems displaying the main menu, you can use the.. instead.. If you have any difficulties using the website, or if you spot any errors in the content, I'd be very grateful if you could email me (please click on name):.. Many thanks!..
